How would communications look like if they were to power the transformation of organisations, cities, and whole landscapes? At a time when everything is at stake, re:storied opens its doors to reinvent the world of communications. Instead of the fabricated darkness of today’s attention economy, our community dares to bring a story to life that reimagines the world to thrive — place by place.
re:storied was founded by three visionary pioneers who felt that today’s world of communications is lacking imagination, wisdom, and a touch of enchantment. Modern society seems to have lost its capacity to relate to what it means to be, to belong, and to cherish beauty. Even sustainability communications seem to keep us stuck in a worldview that ignores the voices of nature, the abundance from diversity, and the potential that lies deep within us.
Today, we find ourselves at a crossroads. We are able to choose how to respond and from which place we communicate. There are forces out there that encourage us to communicate from scarcity, fear, and opposition. However, communicating regeneratively is consciously choosing to tap into the most transformative force humanity has ever known: love.
This force seeks common sense and common ground. It creates an intimate spaciousness between us that allows for deeper conversations to be had and stories to be told. Regenerative communications seek the divine in everyday moments, enchant, pursue beauty, and always ask “how do I serve life ?”
We need dedicated spaces where people can practice and exchange the type of communications that allows for co-evolution, enlivenment, and a falling in love again with the places and communities we feel part of.
Therefore, re:storied works to restore integrity, imagination and depth in relationships — not only between people but also with the Earth. We want communications to channel energy into regenerating our planet and ourselves.
re:storied is the place where communicators come together to hold bigger questions, to co-create stories of transformation, and to find inspiration from each other to revitalise Earth and our contribution to her.
To help orient our efforts, we have identified six dimensions that regenerative communications steward for enabling such greater aliveness, love, and enchantment:
Security
re:live beyond survival
Many marketing, political campaigning, and communication practices today keep us stuck in a survival mode. Fear, anger, and despair have become mainstream.
It is therefore key to create safe and welcoming boundaries for communication environments. re:storied holds space for its members to learn how to create healthy boundaries in different communication contexts. Without shying away from the perspectives of mass-suffering and death, we invite the message of the pain that connects the living world today – and believe that accepting this pain is key to healing.
Focus
re:focus on what’s essential
We believe in the power of communication to reconnect individuals with their true essence. Our work encourages people to embrace their natural state of being, where authenticity flows freely, and where each interaction is a genuine expression of they we are. We aim to cultivate a culture of inclusivity and connection, where all voices are heard, and where every individual and species is recognized as an integral part of the whole. Furthermore, we see beauty as a regenerative force that inspires and enlivens. In every aspect of our work — from the way we communicate to the spaces we create, we strive to bring forth beauty.
Embodiment
re:embody aliveness
If the ecological crisis can be read as a crisis of relating to our home planet, then our unhealthy relationship to our bodies is expressed in multiple psychosomatic ways as well. For a long time, communications have over-emphasised a cold rationality at the expense of emotions, body sensations, and the connection to Earth. That’s why we want to make our bodies the grounding element for all communications. Our bodies are vessels that carry enormous wisdom — they are messengers of past events, express our uniqueness, and are connecting us with the world in multiple ways.
Regenerative communications emphasize the role of embodied communications as a way to integrate the messages of the material and ideal world — it is stepping into action to bring ideas to life where it is needed. We reconnect to the wisdom of our nervous, muscular, sceleton systems and their relationships. re:storied cultivates embodied communications by inviting the whole spectrum of our senses, the spaciousness of the body relating to the world, as well as a grounding effect through serenity.
Feeling
re:feel your longing heart
Communicating with heart intelligence means looking at what needs nourishment and care within our context.
Today, the ecological, social, and health crises are a loud call for listening to our hearts. It may give very clear indications about what needs to be done – and which ideas (head) and actions (hands) can help it succeed. As a communicator, it is therefore important to develop fertile conditions in which we can reconnect to our emotions and let them flow. Furthermore, incorporating the heart dimension gives us important cues about what needs to be done when working with a brand or organization. Indeed, it is the vital organ that will energize all others – through passion, care, and harmony.
Connection
re:member your roots
Modern communications, including our language and narratives, leave little place to honor our shared roots. Therefore, we want communications to reconnect to the planet we come from, the heritage we carry, and the narratives that have shaped how we look at the world. Coming all from the same source of life, and sharing our common home, Earth reminds us to cultivate our ways of belonging to Earth. By recognizing our kinship with all living beings, we can assume a new role as stewards of a more thrivable world. Communications have a key role to play in expressing this kinship in our practices, language, and narratives.
Imagination
re:imagine communication pathways
We want communications to become the energizing force of imagining what it means to be part of thriving organizations, living environments, and a whole ecosystem. We imagine re:storied as a living laboratory — an imagination space that dreams into being thriving places of a regenerative age. Our regenerative communications community acts as stewards of these places, bringing them to life where they are needed. Importantly, the design of re:storied as a space that hosts different imagination places accounts for the ecological dynamics of change — inviting us to reflect interdependencies in our communications.
